Cdt Sgt Craggs (18), has been selected for the prestigious John Cunningham Flying Scholarship of 13 hours flying with Tayside Aviation in Dundee.
He is one of only four Air Cadets in the Organisation to be selected this year, and he was put forward because of his proven ability demonstrated in flying and gliding. Sgt Craggs attained his “G1” wings last year, which means he can already take up passengers and teach other cadets how to fly. This scholarship is a opportunity to take his knowledge and skills to the next level. The course starts in August, and if he excels during this then he may be given the opportunity to obtain a Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence.
The scholarship is named in memory of Group Captain John “Cat’s eyes” Cunningham, a distinguished RAF night fighter pilot in WWII and later chief test pilot for the de Havilland Aircraft Company. The scholarship is run by the Geoffrey de Havilland foundation (the registered charity of The Air Squadron1) which Group Captain Cunningham was chairman of for 25 years up until his death in 2002.
