Every few weeks, to make sure everybody in the squadron is fit for activities like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we have sports nights. These nights consist of fun and games, as well as hard graft. The NCO’s plan the night and organise fitness circuits, as well as games such as dodge ball. We keep records of every time we do circuits and see whether we have improved since the last time. Within circuits, there are all of the required fitness skills to enter the RAF, therefore sports nights are essential for those who want to join the RAF.
Sometimes, we have inter-squadron nights, the most recent one we participated in was against 1507 Chester-le-Street Squadron. All the cadets met at Chester-le-Street and the cadets played football against each other.
We also do swimming every month, where cadets get to earn their swimming proficiency awards & badges. Cadets go swimming at the well-equipped Freemans’s Quay Fitness Centre in Durham City.
